Description
I hereby set a trend... well, two trends for the reconstruction of dinosaurs:
Tron Lines
iridescent skin colors
Tron Lines just look cool... and should be sufficiently inconspicuous at a distance to not interfere appreciably with the animal's hunting prowess yet be a powerful signal at close range. The colorful cheek is another reason theropods, or this theropod at least, keeps their mouth closed: revealing it is part of the animal's threat display.
Iridescent skin colors are unknown in archosaurs mostly because of lack of study, but a weak bracket can be construed with iridescent squamates ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sce… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rai… ) and the vivid structural colors of some birds ( ibc.lynxeds.com/photo/velvet-a… ).
Further reading: Richard O. Prum. (1999). "The Anatomy and Physics of Avian Structural Colors". in 1999. Proceedings of the 22nd International Ornithological Congress. Adams, N. J. & Slotow, R. H. (eds.) Durban, South Africa: Bird Life South Africa.
A bit more seriously, the above is more of a dolled-up color study for a subsequent digital oil painting. Critiques and suggestions of other possible color schemes are very welcome.
