In my gallery you can find art ranging from scientific and SF&F illustration to abstract with a smattering of photography and writing in between. Enjoy!

Here are the works I've seen on dA that I found astonishing, something that tends to be not that easy.

Bad Hair Days

Thu Nov 12, 2009, 4:20 AM
For some years now I've been stroking my hand through my hair in that gesture that denotes shades of worry. More often than not a sprinkle of flakes would be brushed off and fall down to whichever object was directly below my head at the time.
I took the dandruff, for that was what it was, as a fact of life: the less talked about it the better. However it got gradually worse as I let my hair grow long in these last three years or so. After some drawn-out mucking about with anti-dandruff shampoo, I decided this July that I was fed up with my long hair and its maintenance problems. I used the trimmer on my shaver to pare my hair flush with my scalp.
I mucked again with anti-dandruff shampoos just to be on the safe side but getting no results afterward I figured I'd better see my doctor about this and other things.
The antifungal shampoo I'm using is doing the trick as I can't see any sign of infection and the small nicks I had in my hairline are fading as new hairs sprout in them.

Incidentally the shampoo has as an ingredient concentrated hydrochloric acid. While that's only mentioned on the appended literature, such forwardness, even if forced by law, is something that cannot be said of other less stringently overseen products. As a recent example, there's this craze about helping your immune system by colonizing your intestines with beneficial bacteria. The trouble is that they hardly ever call them that... 'bacteria', I mean.
People should know by now that most bacteria are indifferent to us and that a good part we call pathogenic are in fact opportunistic in the sense that an open wound or inner surface of the body is to them a more favourable culture medium than the soil. So they ain't there out to get us more than the rain or the sun are.
I'm not saying you shouldn't keep your hygiene habits. Seriously, please do! It's the unnecessary drama thrown up around this issue that annoys me the most.

My desktop computer is back online. The fix is rather inexpensive if it continues working: a fan over the cooling element of the graphics card. So far Murphy's Law hasn't reared up its ugly little head but if it does I'll have to rehaul my computer once more. The issue lies with the AGP graphics card slot I've got on my motherboard which has fallen out of favour in the last few years and is on its last legs as 2009 closes to an end. After that to get a new graphics card I'll have to once more substitute the motherboard and everything that happens to not be compatible with the new one.
For now I'll have to throw graphic-intensive stuff at my computer and see how it holds out. So far, so good...

My exercise routine is going well enough. It's now made up of variations in push-ups and sit-ups, a bit of a grueling affair if you ask me. However as I want to keep this going I'll have to persevere.
Tally for October: 3 kg lost.

What more to say here that isn't transparent in my artwork, my favourites and my journal entries?

Well, just so the visitor and me are on the same page I'll say that I am a skeptically inquiring secular humanist of a materialist and modernist bent with a lapsed Roman Catholic upbringing. Thus, for all intents and purposes, I'm a moderately cynical atheist.

Also I tend to have a life, namely as a Biology student, and, to my chagrin, I am a procrastinator. The former hopefully won't be fixed in the next 100 years, though the latter is something I'm desperately trying to work on.

Finally, I am always interested in artistic advice.

No problem! I will believe in you as long as you're active ;)

Seriously though, here's my best wishes. Great amateur palaeontographers are few and far between so they deserve all the support they can get :)

Thank you very much for the favourite on that oldie too.
